At Cradle Technology Services we have a simple approach to planning and working. We do not get caught up in rigid project charts and panic when a deadline date has changed; we embrace the change and alter our plans. When it comes to organising around a new deadline or project, we believe in the following points:
1) Monitor your results, not your time
Our team is not interested in measuring our time. We aim to meet our requirements and ensure we have achieved our objective. What is the point of taking five hours to complete a task when it could have been done in two? We do not waste time. It is a precious resource.
2) Create flexible planning
Create a goal or vision for yourself so that you know what direction you will be working in. At GraniteWMS we use basic planning templates and process charts that can continually be revised if necessary. There is no need to complicate things or get uptight if something changes; it is normal for a client to change his/her mind about certain decisions along the way.
3) Engage More Regularly
Ever felt like you or your client seem to be losing the plot in your relationship? Talk to them more. Do not assume they are on the same page as you or disregard a looming problem. Ever heard about the saying that 'the key to a healthy relationship is communication? Well, the same can be said for you and your client as well!
Ensure communication between you and your client is recorded as often as possible. Emails are a useful way of doing this. Get in the habit of emailing the minutes of your meeting or a basic summary of you and your client's engagement just so that you can refer to previous conversations and avoid unecessary conflict should the occasion arise!
